How to wear a black wrap dress

A wrap dress is a great and versatile piece of clothing to have as a staple item in your wardrobe. It is a v-neck dress designed with a slim-fitting top and a looser skirt, often with extra material across the bust and stomach, giving it the “wrap” look. The wrap dress can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

The wrap dress flatters many body types. It looks best on curvier women because it enhances the bust while accentuating and slimming the waist and flattening the stomach. For more modesty in a wrap dress, you may choose to wear it with a camisole or a tank top underneath, or a cardigan or blazer on top.

Diane von Fürstenberg is best known for introducing the knitted jersey wrap dress in 1974, an example of which, due to its influence on women’s fashion, is in the collection of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
